Of A Generation

Intro: Angelina

“Finally I can leave now that the last bus has left the depo. I would fire Amukelani if he wasn’t my dead husbands son. He is always late.” Angelina thinks you herself as she locks the office. Sunday is the only day they close the office. The buses still run but her office staff have the day off. The drivers work on a shift rotation schedule. Her breathing is loud and deep by the time she starts wrestling with the seatbelt. Her throat begins to tingle and she remembers that she hasn’t taken her flu medication. Her hand bag is in the boot. “I’ll drink it when I get to church,” she thinks to herself and starts the car.

At the church gate, one of the boys runs to open the gate for her. Not because it’s the right thing to do, but because the activity ends with Angelina showing her appreciation with a one rand coin. She does not mind the attention that her wealth buys for her, especially when it comes to Mildred.
